connecting with other cultures and landscapes; all this is a furnace for Rachael’s innovative song

push the boundaries of folk and pop

Smugglers Session #25 Sam Ashton
Wednesday 13th November, 20:00
Samuel Ashton’s unique voice blends soul, blues and country tones which add weight to his meaningful folky songwriting. Following the release of his Debut EP 'Spreading Light’ and boosted by Radio Support from Abbie McCarthy's BBC Introducing show Samuel has delivered numerous soulful performances across the country with recent headline shows in London and Brighton.
The band’s albums, 2012’s ‘Now Is The Time’ and 2014’s ‘Wayfarers All’ and 2017's 'The Hangman's Fee' have won praise from critics and fans alike for the quality of songwriting and musicianship while the band have appeared at the likes of Beverley Folk Festival, New forest Folk Festival, Broadstairs Folk Week and the Kelburn Garden Party. They have shared stages with the likes of Gilmore & Roberts, Spiers & Boden and Fotheringay.
The band are currently working on their fourth studio album due for release in 2020. Sinister spirits and bloodstained tales weave their way through the album backed by the signature Green Diesel sound. English folk, red in tooth and claw, performed by a band at the top of their game.
Reviews for The Hangman's Fee:
R2 - 4/5 Stars - ‘In The Hangman's Fee Green Diesel have delivered and old-school folk rock belter.’
fRoots – 'as if Mr Fox has met with Spriguns and No Right Turn in a prog-folk menage a trois...through a prism which reflects 2017 not 1977'
Shindig! - 'a band with roots deep in the native soil, playing their own electric interpretations of ancient English music and crafting originals that fit seamlessly alongside the traditional tracks'
FolkWords - 'an established band simply getting better'
